A Scent For Your Soul

Whenever I know I am going to be spending a couple of hours in my room I light a candle.  I do this whether I am watching a TV show on Netflix, doing homework, or simply cleaning.  There is just something about dimming the lights and lighting a candle that is good for your soul.  If you don't believe me, just give it a try.
That being said, all candles are not the same.  I have wasted so much money on candles that don't spread the scent well, or that smell nothing like I thought it would once it is burning.  I have to say, even the Bath and Body Works candles everyone raves about are not always that good.  Pretty overrated if you ask me.  So, the point of this post is to share with you, me being an admitted candle addict, my favorite candles.
The Our Own Candle Company candles are literally the best candles I have ever burned.  I had a friend who recommended them to me and I haven't turned back since.  I know you can get them at AC Moore and they have a website.  They are so adorable, packaged in glass mason jars, and have amazing scents to choose from.  Plus, if you get them from AC Moore, you can use the weekly coupon and get them for six dollars apiece.  The point of this post isn't to sell you an item, especially since I do not benefit from it all, but simply to share with you a candle that I believe is truly worth your money.  As a college student i am all about getting the most bang for your buck and I believe these candles truly accomplish that goal.
I hope you can find these amazing candles and just take a moment to enjoy them.  I'll post a couple of pictures of my Rootbeer Float and Pumpkin Spice/Cinnamon Buns/French Vanilla
scented candles from Our Own Candle Company for you to get an idea of what they are like.

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

With finals wrapping up I would like to take a moment of silence for us college students.  Or, better yet, a moment of noise! It's time to take the headphones out of your laptops, stand up on that library table and celebrate.  You made it out alive.  Even if you didn't do as well as you wanted to, finals did not kill you, even if you are a burned out, slightly psychotic mess.  That is why we get over a month off, so we can sleep until it is time to start over next semester!  So, take the next month to sleep, party it up and enjoy yourself!!

Happy Winter Break!

The Road Not Taken

While on Tumblr I saw a picture that really explained how I felt when I decided to transfer schools.  It is such a hard decision, one that I feel takes strength to make.  When you pick a college to attend you really hope that it will be your home for at least the next four years of your life.  So when you get there and it feels like you made the wrong choice it can make you feel like a failure.  At least, that was my experience.  However, instead of wallowing in that feeling, I decided to take a leap of faith and transfer schools.  Even though I will never know what would have happened if I stayed, I know this was a good choice for me.  There were so many factors to consider but in the end I thought I would become the most educated, and the happiest, I could be if I went to a larger, more challenging, school.  And quite frankly, I was right.

So  I hope this picture (which I do not own, and if you know who does let me know!) helps you trust your gut.  Even if your decisions isn't the best for you, it will turn into a learning experience and nothing is more valuable.  Plus, you never know, it could end up being the best decision of your life!  Trust that everyone feels the same way about big decisions and that no matter what you do there is always something else that could have happened.  Please try not to dwell, just live in the present!

The Girl With A Dream

Hi and welcome!  I just want to take a second to tell you a little bit about myself, because what is the fun in reading a blog without knowing who I am?

My name is Kate and I am a twenty year old college student, currently enjoying my junior year.  At the moment, I am in a specialized two year program to get my B.S.W (Bachelors in Social Work).  My plan is to try to get accepted into the M.S.W/J.D. Dual Degree program to be licensed as both a social worker and a lawyer.  Sometimes school can consume my life, and while I am proud of my accomplishments I realize that I need to add something meaningful to my life.  So I want to use this blog to both hold myself accountable for my goals and to help you make it through school as well.

I might be able to help any current, prospective, or aspiring college student because of my experiences with several colleges.  I went to a small private school for my first two years of college and it was crazy because it was even smaller than my high school!  Yet, as much as it helped shape me into a more confident and independent person, it also was not enough for me.  So, I transferred to a huge University.  Talk about a change of scenery! However, the difference this time is that I am commuting from home, and I'm in a specialized program with about forty other students in my year.   I even took classes at a local community college (which was bigger than my first school) to finish up some credits. Now I have an understanding of how all sorts of college programs and schools work and know a ton of tips and tricks to make it out alive!

Besides my collegiate experiences, I want to use this blog to share things that make me happy.  So, that could be anything from make-up, hair products, quotes, music, places, websites, etc.  Plus, I would love this to be interactive somehow since I love to meet new people.  I think the best way to learn is to share experiences with others. So my hope is that someday this little blog will grow into a place where we can all share hopes, dreams and ideas as well as mistakes.

Thanks for reading!  I hope everyone catches that dreamer's disease!
